Restoration of a traditional chalet roof structure, improving insulation and long-term performance while preserving its original character. This project required a deep understanding of traditional Swiss alpine construction methods — the existing roof had to be carefully assessed, partially dismantled, and rebuilt to modern performance standards without losing any of the character that made the building special.

"Restoration of a traditional chalet roof structure, improving insulation and long-term performance while preserving its original character."

Noblewood's team worked sensitively with the existing structure, retaining and reinforcing original timber elements wherever possible and replacing only what was structurally necessary. The result is a roof that looks exactly as it always has — but now performs to a modern standard of thermal efficiency and structural integrity that will last for generations.

  • Structural Assessment & Planning — Full structural assessment of the existing roof frame, identifying elements to be retained, reinforced, or replaced.

  • Selective Timber Replacement — Careful replacement of structurally compromised rafters and purlins using matching Douglas Fir to preserve visual continuity.

  • Roof Insulation Upgrade — Full 200mm rock wool insulation installation to dramatically improve thermal performance and meet current Swiss energy standards.

  • Vapour Control & Underlay — New breathable underlay and vapour control layer installed throughout — the critical layer protecting the structure for decades to come.

  • Structural Reinforcement — Additional structural reinforcement at key connections and ridge points to bring the frame up to current load-bearing requirements.

"The team understood exactly what we wanted — modern performance without losing the soul of the original building. They delivered both."
